The lectures consider the material, social and intellectual conditions for the rise of rational medicine, influential medical authors and general issues such as the relation between religion and science, attitudes towards progress, medical theories and practices, and the transmission of scientific knowledge up to the early modern age (Vesalius, Harvey).
