MDIA 2329 - Spark & Remix: Media Writing Workshop

In this advanced writing workshop for new media contexts, you will learn about retelling and remixing narratives from shared cultural repertoires, and about dominant visual, listening and writing conventions. You will research and source material for your own narrative; design a narrative project; prepare drafts and scripts; and edit your own and others' work. You will be given practice in the conceptualisation and scaling of narratives for different genres and platforms. Although the course aims to develop innovative approaches to media writing, it takes a 'techniques-based' rather than 'creative writing' approach to the composition of content for, e.g., archives, documentary, docudrama, life stories, short narrative film, digital story, public and community media communications, educational media, and mobiles. The choice of the specific techniques, genres, audiences and platforms studied will be discussed at the first of the six full day workshops.
