Syllabus:

This course is an introduction to statistics. It is aimed at students in business, economics and similar disciplines, although it may have wider appeal. The emphasis is on understanding the concepts that statistics relies on and in interpreting the results. By the end of the course students will understand what statistical techniques are appropriate and when they aren't appropriate. No computing background is required although students will be shown how Microsoft Excel can be used in statistical analysis. Topics covered may include descriptive statistics, correlation and simple regression, probability, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, index numbers and time series analysis.
