Australia's distinctive history, people and landscape have led to media that share many characteristics with those of other nations, but also imprinted them with some unique and remarkable features. This course examines the media used by almost everyone around the world - everything from television and radio, to printed publications like newspapers, magazines and books, to 'new' media, including websites, social media and mobile telecommunications - but demonstrates that these appearances of familiarity can be deceptive. It examines the origins and development of the media in Australia through the people and organisations that made them to explain what's up with media Down Under in the 21st century!
